Meet Carolynn Stothers, AMFT #102836

“Be not the slave of your own past. Plunge into the sublime seas, dive deep and swim far, so you shall come back with self-respect, with new power, with an advanced experience that shall explain and overlook the old.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson

Sometimes, it can be hard to find our way back to our truest self because of the burdens we carry—weighing us down—keeping us stuck in our path. As a therapist, I provide a supportive, non-judgmental, space to ease your isolation, unburden your soul, and explore life’s dilemmas in the compassionate presence of someone outside your everyday world. In this way, my hope is that you can feel supported, obtain perspective, and gain the tools you seek to help you find the strength to continue your story.

Education

I have earned a Master’s degree from California Lutheran University in Counseling Psychology, Marriage and Family Therapy, with a concentration in Family Mediation, in addition to a supporting Bachelor’s degree from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in Psychology, with a minor in Child Development. Now, as an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (AMFT#102836), I am continuing to work towards my state license and currently receive comprehensive support and supervision from Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Gina Cole (LMFT#48395).

As a marriage and family therapist, I not only look at the individual, but the pattern of interaction between the individual and their environment—the system in which they live. My education, training, and personal experience have provided me with a firm foundation for helping children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families with a diverse range of issues: anxiety, depression, life transitions, grief and loss, relationships, shame, self judgment, and self esteem. My therapeutic style is a creative combination of approaches, such as person-centered, systemic, somatic, art, attachment, and solution-focused therapy.
